Chimney Inspection and Service
Chimneys need periodic examination and thorough cleaning to maintain efficiency and to reduce the chance of a chimney fire. When your chimney is cleaned, it involves the removal of all of the hazardous and extremely flammable creosote in addition to the soot that tends to build up with regular use. Regardless of whether or not there is any buildup of creosote, the inspection of the chimney and structure is critical to ensure the chimney is safe to use. The recent earthquake is almost forgotten.
However, we at Eurotech Chimney are reminded of it every day. In central Virginia I am finding damage to chimneys that can only be explained with seismic movement, about 50% of chimney structures have hairline cracks from the earthquake. Of those, 90% it is not a safety issue. However, in 1 out of 10 chimneys, we are finding potential fire hazards.
Chimney professionals in this area are not trained to inspect for this damage. We, at Eurotech Chimney, have been trained by an earthquake expert (Dale Feb, from Moorepark CA, who has been inspecting earthquake damage for 30 years). Eurotech employees pride ourselves as being the best trained in the industry. Ask to see your inspector’s credentials, and apprenticeship card.
Masonry Repairs
Chimneys are constantly exposed to the elements, which deteriorate them over time. Tuck pointing, crown repair, and rebuilding are inevitably part of owning a masonry chimney. If you've got missing mortar joints, loose or missing bricks call us today for an estimate.
Woodstove Installations
All of our stove installations meet or exceed Virginia code, and closely follow manufacturer’s installation instructions.
Chimney Safety Facts
As previously stated, the National Fire Protection Association recommends that chimneys be inspected yearly and serviced if necessary on a yearly basis. This includes fireplaces, wood stoves, gas, oil, and pellet venting appliances. They have also determined that there shall be three levels of inspection for these services.
